Prof. Erdal Karaöz, M.D. graduated from Dicle University in 1986. After completing his education, he received his doctor's degree in the Department of Histology and Embryology at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1994. Continuing his work at Süleyman Demirel University's Department of Histology and Embryology, he received the title of Associate Professor in 1996 attained a full professorship in 2002.

Dr. Karaöz has worked on "Stem Cell, Tissue Engineering and Gene Therapies" since 2000 and carried out experiments in "Embryonic Stem Cell and Islet Transplantation" at Harvard University in Boston, USA, in 2005.

In 2007, he established the "Kocaeli University (KOU) Stem Cell and Gene Therapies Research and Application Center" (KÖGEM).  During his period at KÖGEM, he organized a total of 23 globally accepted courses on Stem Cell, Tissue Engineering and Endometrium-Embryo Co-Culture. During this time, he served as coordinator, researcher and advisor on a variety of national and foreign projects, including 30 TUBITAK projects.

In 2010, he was the founding president of the Stem Cell Department at the Institute of Health Sciences Kocaeli University and opened the path for the launch of the first Stem Cell Postgraduate Program in Turkey. He retired from this position at his own request on 1 October 2014 and then started to work as a Regenerative Medicine Supervisor at the Stem Cell Development Centers.

Prof. Karaöz also performs his academic work as founding Vice-Rector and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Istinye.
