Mahmut Akyıldız was born on February 2, 1964 in Rize - Çataldere. He completed his high school education at Istanbul Kabataş Boys' High School and he graduated from university in 1987 at Istanbul University – Faculty of Medicine.

After his compulsory service in Çankırı Kursunlu Medical Center and after serving his time for military as a camp doctor at Tuzla Infantry School, to get his specialization, he started as a Cardiovascular surgery assistant at Dr. Siyami Ersek Cardiovascular Surgery Hospital. After staying there for 5 years as an assistant and another 3 years as a chief assistant, he became a Cardiovascular Surgery Specialist. At the same time, he founded Cardiovascular Surgery departments in many private hospitals.

Dr Mahmut Akyıldız has been working in private sector for 15 years, has performed over 10,000 operations himself, and has been involved in over 13,000. He has an extremely high level of knowledge and experience in heart valve surgeries and beating heart bypasses.
