Most Powerful Breast Cancer Fighting Foods That You Must Know

Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide. 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. When breast cancer is detected early, there is a good chance that it can be cured. Today, the early combination of chemotherapy and nutrition therapy is able to save the lives of thousands of cancer patients. Studies suggest that almost 40 percent of all kinds of cancer can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle and eating nutritious foods.

Mushrooms

Recent studies have shown that eating mushrooms can actually reduce the chance of a woman being diagnosed with breast cancer. That’s because mushrooms contain the antioxidant known as L-ergothioneine, which has been shown to ward off cancer.

Broccoli

Broccoli blocks tumor growth, prevents the further spread of cancer if it does occur especially estrogen-dependent cancers. You can also get this anti-cancer benefit from other cruciferous veggies including cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and kale.

Pomegranates

Pomegranate seeds contain high amounts of cancer-fighting antioxidants. The crunchy little seeds, which are also called arils, are high in ellagic acid, a particularly effective antioxidant that can prevent the development of breast cancer. Eating these fiber-rich seeds can help your body inhibit the growth of hormone-dependent breast cancer. Whether in fruit or juice form, pomegranates will be a delicious and healthy addition to your diet.

Lentils

Recent studies link lentils to dramatically lowering a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer. Lentils, like their legume cousins, contain lots of folate, fiber, and many other nutrients that can keep our bodies functioning effectively.

Walnuts

Walnuts are high in several compounds that make us healthy, including omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and phytosterols. All of which may help prevent or slow the development of cancerous cells. Walnuts contain a vitamin called gamma tocopherol that stops the activation of Akt, an enzyme that is essential for cancer cell survival.

Salmon

This fatty fish is already considered a superfood on account of its high levels of omega-3 fatty acids. These essential fats have been linked to improved breast cancer prognosis. A large-scale analysis of international studies published in the journal BMJ found that women who consumed the most fish-based omega-3 fatty acids were 14 percent less likely to have breast cancer, compared to those who ate the least. Salmon also contains high levels of vitamin D, the “sunshine vitamin,” which can reduce a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer by roughly one-quarter.

Spinach

Spinach is very high in vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin A, and folate, all of which are linked to reducing the risk of breast cancer. Spinach is also high in vitamin B, which plays an important part in cell development and keeps our cells from being attacked by cancer.

Cooked Tomatoes

Besides the fact that they make a great pasta sauce, you should also eat cooked tomatoes because they may help reduce women’s risk of developing breast cancer. Recent findings, reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, found that a carotenoid antioxidant found in tomatoes, known as lycopene, was particularly effective at helping women with the harder-to-treat version of breast cancer: estrogen receptor (ER)–negative tumors. While women with the highest levels of carotenoids in general had a 19 percent lower risk of breast cancer, women with the highest levels of lycopene, specifically, had a 22 percent decreased risk.

Blueberries

Few foods contain as many cancer-fighting antioxidants as blueberries. Recent studies have shown that blueberries can reduce the development of cancerous tumors by forcing cancerous cells to deteriorate. Blueberries are also a great source of vitamin K, vitamin C, manganese and fiber.

Turmeric

Many of the studies have shown curcumin -the main active ingredient in turmeric- actually stops cancer cells from dividing. Curcumin also has the ability to kill cancer cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed.
